🌎 US – Remote
We’re partnering with a rapidly scaling FinTech company that is on a mission to power the next generation of payments infrastructure. As they continue to scale rapidly, they’re seeking a Chief Compliance Officer to lead their global compliance strategy and support their expansion into new markets.
About the Role
As CCO, you’ll serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership, owning all aspects of compliance across U.S. and international markets. You’ll shape and scale the compliance framework to support rapid growth—particularly within cross-border payments and high-risk merchant verticals—while ensuring robust adherence to global regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and scale a comprehensive compliance and risk management framework, ensuring alignment with U.S. and international requirements (particularly in Mexico, Canada, and Europe).
- Serve as the primary point of contact with card networks and regulators.
- Manage all AML/BSA/OFAC policies and oversee transaction monitoring for high-risk merchant verticals.
- Lead preparation for and management of major audits and regulatory exams.
- Build and mentor a compliance team that can scale with the company’s growth.
- Advise executive leadership and board members on strategic compliance matters, regulatory risks, and emerging global regulatory trends.
- Support go-to-market teams by advising on risk/compliance impacts for direct merchant onboarding, ISVs, and cross-border initiatives.
- Draft clear, concise internal and external documentation — strong writing is critical given the company’s writing-driven culture.
Ideal Background:
- 10-12+ years of experience in banking/Fintech compliance, AML/BSA leadership, and payments regulation.
- Hands-on payments experience, particularly with card network rules and processing infrastructure (processor experience preferred over facilitator-only experience).
- Experience at a start-up or high-growth fintech environment — ideally a slightly larger scale than early-stage.
- Involvement in a Visa GARS audit or similar extensive compliance audit process.
- Deep understanding of high-risk merchant categories and cross-border payments compliance challenges.
- Exposure to both direct merchant and ISV (Independent Software Vendor) ecosystems.
- Strong knowledge of both online and card-present (CP) payment environments.
- Strategic thinker who is also comfortable rolling up sleeves to build and operate in a hands-on environment.
