The Company

Storm2’s client is a Series A, Bay Area wealth technology business building products that bring institutional-grade investment tools, private markets access, and sophisticated portfolio strategies to a much broader audience. They’re investing heavily in the underlying infrastructure that powers their platform, with a particular focus on scalability, reliability, and data integrity. 

The Role

The focus is on building the financial infrastructure that sits underneath the product: trading systems, ledgering, portfolio accounting, billing, and real-time data pipelines.

The challenge here is correctness. Every design decision has consequences, and reliability, consistency, and observability matter just as much as shipping quickly. If you’ve built financial systems before, you’ll know that fixing a problem after the fact is far more expensive than getting the architecture right upfront.

You’ll be joining a team working on the systems that define the source of truth for the platform, making this a strong fit for engineers who enjoy distributed systems, financial infrastructure, and solving complex scaling problems.
 

What you’ll be working on:

• Designing and building core financial systems across trading, ledgering, billing, and portfolio accounting. 
• Developing transaction processing, reconciliation, and portfolio state management workflows. 
• Building and scaling real-time and batch data pipelines. 
• Architecting APIs and backend services for internal and external users.
• Improving reliability, observability, resilience, and fault tolerance across critical systems.
• Contributing to distributed systems architecture, including event-driven systems, microservices, and streaming platforms.
• Partnering with machine learning teams when production systems require model integration.

What you’ll bring:

• 5+ years of backend or systems engineering experience with exposure to distributed systems. 
• Experience in at least one of:
  • Financial systems such as trading, payments, reconciliation, or ledgering.
  • Data infrastructure and large-scale data platforms.
  • Scalable backend platform engineering. 
• Strong understanding of system design, consistency guarantees, reliability, and failure modes. 
• Strong programming skills in Python or a comparable backend language. 
• Experience with modern infrastructure technologies such as Kafka, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms.

Nice to have:

• Experience with financial primitives such as ledgers, order management systems, reconciliation workflows, or portfolio accounting. 
• Background building low-latency or high-throughput systems. 
• Experience with data platforms, event streaming, or real-time processing systems. 
• Exposure to machine learning systems in production environments.
