Software Engineer
Storm2
⚡ Senior Backend Engineer – Trading & Financial Systems
🌍 New York City, SoHo, in-office
💲 $200k–$260k base
The Company
Storm2’s client is an early-stage New York FinTech rebuilding how Americans access and fund retirement, using financing to open up greater participation in public markets.
They’re well-backed by leading venture investors and have assembled a lean team with experience across some of the biggest names in financial services and technology. The engineering problems sit directly at the intersection of credit, investing and money movement.
The Role
Moving money is easy until you’re responsible for making sure every dollar ends up exactly where it should.
You’ll build the backend systems behind trading, financing and fund management, including the workflows that orchestrate and reconcile complex movements of capital. This is financial infrastructure where correctness matters, but the team is still early enough that you’ll have genuine influence over architecture rather than inheriting years of decisions.
They’re looking for an engineer who is comfortable with ambiguity and complexity. Someone who can get deep into a backend problem, make sensible architectural calls, challenge assumptions in a code review, and move across the stack when the problem requires it.
What you’ll be working on:
- Building core systems supporting trading, financing and fund management
- Designing APIs and event-driven services around complex financial workflows
- Architecting reliable systems for orchestrating and reconciling money movement
- Making technical decisions around reliability, data integrity and system design
- Contributing to architecture discussions, planning and code reviews across the stack
- Working closely with a small team where engineers have meaningful ownership over what gets built
What you’ll bring:
- Strong backend engineering experience and a track record of designing production systems
- Depth in at least one of Kotlin, Rust, Java, Go, C/C++, Python, Ruby or TypeScript
- Strong understanding of API design and event-driven architectures
- Production experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Experience deploying and operating systems on AWS, GCP or Azure
- The ability to reason through complicated systems rather than simply implement a predefined spec
- High ownership and comfort working in an early-stage, in-office environment
Particularly relevant experience
If you’ve built trading, lending or asset management infrastructure before, you’ll recognise a lot of the problems here. Kotlin experience is valuable, as is hands-on experience with Temporal or other workflow orchestration technology.
Financial markets experience isn’t the only route in, but genuine curiosity about how capital, credit and markets work is important. This is a role for someone who wants to understand the financial problem as deeply as the engineering one.
