The Company

Storm2’s client is an established institutional asset manager running a sizeable specialty finance and private credit portfolio. Think volume: this isn’t a handful of PE investments to track, it’s a high-throughput book spanning multiple credit strategies with real data complexity underneath it.

The Role

The investment team has needed this person for two years. They’ve taken three runs at building the analytics platform internally through the broader tech group, and it hasn’t landed. So they’re doing what they should have done earlier: hiring their own engineer, sitting them with the investment team, and giving them full ownership of the build.

You’d be the only technical resource paid for directly by the Specialty Finance business, not the central tech group. That’s unusual, and it’s intentional. The HM wants someone who understands the asset classes, not just the tooling, and who can translate what the investment team actually needs into dashboards and data infrastructure that help them track performance and manage risk properly.

The right background could look like a lot of things. You might be at a mortgage lender, a credit card processor, or a specialty lender. Ideally you’ve come through a firm like Castlelake, Blackstone Credit, or Blue Owl, where you’ve been close enough to the investment process to know why the metrics matter, not just how to build the pipes.

On location: the team is in Redwood City three to four days a week.

What you’ll be working on:

• Building and owning the analytics platform and dashboards the investment team uses to track deal performance, portfolio risk, and key credit metrics
• Designing the data infrastructure to handle high volumes of deal-level data across multiple asset classes
• Acting as the bridge between the investment team and the broader technology group
• Supporting ad-hoc analysis for investment memos, portfolio reviews, and surveillance
• Identifying opportunities to layer in AI/automation where it actually adds value

What you’ll bring:

• 10+ years as a full-stack or data-focused engineer with real experience in specialty finance, private credit, ABS, or consumer credit
• Strong Python and SQL, with hands-on Snowflake experience and a track record building analytics-ready data models at scale
• Experience shipping dashboards and data applications for investment or finance teams (Streamlit, Dash, Plotly, Tableau or equivalent)
• The ability to work directly with investors, take ambiguous requirements, and deliver something they’ll actually use
• US work authorisation (no visa sponsorship available)
