About the Company

We are partnered with a Series C, venture-backed RegTech company building mission-critical software to detect, prevent, and investigate payments fraud. The platform sits at the intersection of real-time payments, risk, and compliance, helping financial institutions and payment providers reduce fraud while maintaining seamless customer experiences.

AI and machine learning are foundational to the product. As transaction volumes scale and fraud patterns evolve in real time, the company relies on advanced models and data systems to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated adversaries.

The Role

This role sits at the technical core of the AI organization. As a Staff AI Engineer, you will design, build, and scale machine learning systems that directly power fraud detection and risk decisioning across high-throughput payments environments.

You’ll operate as a hands-on technical leader, partnering closely with Engineering, Product, and Data teams to take models from research through production, ensuring they are reliable, explainable, and performant at scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement ML systems for real-time fraud detection, risk scoring, and anomaly detection
• Lead end-to-end model development, from data exploration and feature engineering through deployment and monitoring
• Build and optimize models across supervised, semi-supervised, and unsupervised learning approaches
• Productionize models using modern MLOps practices, ensuring scalability, latency, and reliability requirements are met
• Partner closely with Product and Engineering to integrate AI into core payments and risk workflows
• Improve model explainability, monitoring, and performance in regulated environments
• Act as a technical mentor and reviewer, raising the bar across the AI/ML team
• Stay ahead of emerging fraud patterns and translate them into deployable modeling strategies

Requirements / Who We’re Looking For

• 8+ years of experience in machine learning, applied AI, or data science
• Strong hands-on experience building and deploying ML systems in production environments
• Deep understanding of fraud, risk, or anomaly detection in payments or financial services
• Experience with modern ML stacks, including Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and cloud-based infrastructure
• Familiarity with streaming data, real-time inference, and high-volume transaction systems
• Strong foundations in statistics, experimentation, and model evaluation
• Comfortable operating in regulated or compliance-heavy environments
• Able to balance technical depth with pragmatic delivery in fast-moving teams
