Storm2

⚡ Staff Backend Engineer

🌍 New York, NY (SoHo, in-office)

💲 $220 – 300k base + Meaningful Equity

✈️ Citizens + greencard holders

The Company

Storm2’s client is a NYC-based FinTech rebuilding the American retirement system from the ground up. The founding team is stacked: senior leaders out of Goldman Sachs, Uber, Block, Stripe, and Robinhood, and the hiring bar across the existing team is set accordingly. They’re backed by a tier-one investor roster that includes some of the most respected names in venture and one of the most influential figures in modern private equity, which speaks to both the calibre of the team and the size of the opportunity.

The mission is simple to state and hard to execute: make market ownership and long-term wealth accessible to every American by building the credit marketplace, products, and platform that power a fundamentally new retirement model.

The Role

This is a foundational hire on a lean, high-leverage engineering team. You’d be working across the core platform that handles trading, money movement, financing, and fund management, designing event-driven systems that orchestrate and reconcile complex flows of funds, and making the calls on how capital moves at scale.

The team is small enough that this role doesn’t sit in a narrow lane. Alongside the core platform work, there’s real scope to shape the data and reporting layer: building the pipelines, warehouse architecture, and automation that power business intelligence, compliance reporting, regulatory submissions, and customer-facing statements. For someone who’s watched financial data go to waste in fragile pipelines or clunky reporting stacks, this is the chance to do it properly from day one.

You’ll be in architecture discussions, planning, and code reviews across the stack, and you’ll have genuine input on what gets built and how.

What you’ll be working on:

Building and maintaining core trading, financing, and fund management systems
Designing systems that orchestrate and reconcile complex flows of funds
API design and event-driven architecture across the core platform
Building data pipelines and warehouse infrastructure that power reporting and analytics
Automating compliance reporting, regulatory submissions, and customer-facing statements
Contributing across the stack as the team and product evolve
What you’ll bring:

Strong backend engineering in Kotlin, Rust, Java, Go, C/C++, Python, Ruby, or TypeScript
Solid architecture instincts across APIs and event-driven systems
MySQL or PostgreSQL, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Strong SQL and data modelling for analytics
Bonus:

Kotlin (the house language)
Trading, lending, or asset management systems
Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, dbt
Temporal
Fintech or early-stage experience
Who thrives here

This is a lean team that moves fast and expects people to operate with high agency. The bar is set on pragmatism and depth, not headcount or process. You should be curious about financial markets, comfortable picking up new tools when the problem calls for it, and genuinely interested in solving something with social weight to it. In-office, five days, in SoHo.
