⚡ VP of Engineering – Financial Markets Technology
🌍 US Remote (Eastern or Central Time Zone Required)
💲 $200,000 – $250,000 base plus bonus plus equity
The Company
Storm2’s client is a FinTech firm operating at real scale in financial markets. They’ve reached the point where the product is working, the traction is there, and the next constraint is purely organisational: can the engineering team build fast enough to match the ambition?
The Role
A lot of VP of Engineering roles are really just senior engineering manager roles with a better title. This one isn’t.
The CTO owns the architecture. You own everything else: delivery, headcount, operational discipline, and the systems that let the team ship at pace without breaking things that can’t break. That’s a meaningful distinction, and it means this role requires someone with genuine range, credibility on the technical side but real skill in the operational and people dimensions too.
Right now the engineering organisation needs structure. That means building team shape around product, platform, data, and trading infrastructure as they grow, eliminating single points of failure across Tier-1 systems, and making delivery predictable rather than heroic. The person who thrives here enjoys those problems. They’ve seen what happens when a fast-moving engineering team doesn’t invest in operational rigour early enough, and they know how to get ahead of it without slowing everything down.
The partnership with the CEO, CTO and COO is close. There’s no layer of bureaucracy between this role and the decisions that matter.
What you’ll be working on:
- Building and scaling the engineering organisation: hiring, developing talent, and creating a culture of genuine ownership
- Translating company priorities into roadmaps, milestones, and timelines, and making sure things actually ship
- Designing team structure to support growth across platform, product engineering, data, and trading infrastructure
- Establishing operational standards: safe deployments, fast incident response, documented systems, redundant ownership across critical components
- Driving cross-functional alignment with leadership, product, and operations so engineering work connects clearly to business outcomes
- Tracking and reporting on key engineering metrics including throughput, reliability, latency, and incident trends
What you’ll bring:
- Engineering leadership experience inside high-growth technology or FinTech environments
- Strong technical background in backend and systems, with exposure to high-volume transactional systems preferred
- A track record scaling engineering organisations from small teams to multi-team structures
- Demonstrated ability to implement engineering process and operational discipline without grinding pace to a halt
- Comfort operating in fast-moving environments where production systems carry real consequences
- The credibility to push back constructively on priorities, hold the line on standards, and make hard tradeoffs when needed
