The Company
Storm2’s client is a venture-backed lending platform focused on expanding access to credit for underserved consumers through a structured, technology-led approach. They design and underwrite proprietary lending products, combining traditional credit fundamentals with modern data and distribution. The business has moved beyond early product-market fit and is now in a phase where portfolio performance, disciplined growth, and credit strategy matter more than pure origination volume.
The Role
This is the person who owns how credit actually works at the company. You will step into a leadership seat reporting directly to the co-founder, taking responsibility for credit policy, underwriting standards, and portfolio performance across the book.
It is not a passive oversight role. The team is small, covering credit analysts, underwriters, and portfolio managers, and you are expected to be hands-on in shaping decisions, not just reviewing them. The challenge is balancing growth ambitions with real credit discipline, knowing when to lean in and when to pull back. If you have spent time in lending businesses where credit was either too rigid to scale or too loose to sustain, this is the opportunity to build it properly.
What you’ll be working on:
- Define and evolve underwriting frameworks, credit policies, and risk appetite across the lending products
- Lead and develop a team spanning credit analysts, underwriters, and portfolio managers
- Own portfolio performance, including vintage analysis, loss forecasting, and ongoing optimisation of risk models
- Partner closely with product, data, and capital markets teams to align credit strategy with growth plans
- Build and refine decisioning strategies using both traditional credit indicators and alternative data sources
- Establish reporting and governance structures for internal leadership and external capital partners
- Contribute to funding strategy by ensuring transparency and consistency in credit performance metrics
What you’ll bring:
- Deep experience in consumer or SME lending, ideally within fintech, specialty finance, or credit-focused platforms
- A track record of owning credit policy and portfolio performance, not just operating within existing frameworks
- Experience managing small, high-performing credit teams in fast-paced environments
- Strong understanding of underwriting, risk modelling, and the trade-offs between growth and loss
- Comfort working closely with founders and senior stakeholders, with the ability to influence at that level
- Experience with data-driven decisioning and modern credit tooling
