Engineering Manager – Product
🌍 San Francisco, CA (On-site, 5 days per week)
💲 $200,000-$300,000 Base + Quarterly Performance Bonus

The Company

Storm2’s client is a fast-growing insurtech business using AI to modernise how commercial insurance is bought, sold, and serviced. The company has experienced exceptional growth over the last 18 months and is investing heavily in product and engineering as it scales. They’re building software that has a direct impact on revenue, operations, and customer outcomes from day one.

The Role

Most engineering management jobs become more about process as the team grows. This one hasn’t.

You’ll lead a product engineering team of six today, with plans to grow to around ten over the next year. The focus is on growth, customer journeys, and the product experiences that directly impact acquisition, conversion, and retention. The challenge isn’t introducing process for the sake of it. It’s helping a high-performing team scale without losing the speed that got the business this far.

The team releases multiple times a day and moves significantly faster than most startups. They’re looking for someone who has seen scale before, knows how to develop engineers, and can keep standards high without slowing the team down. You should be comfortable discussing architecture and product strategy in the same meeting, whilst remaining close enough to the technology to support technical decision-making when needed.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Leading, mentoring and growing a team of Product Engineers
  • Scaling the team from 6 engineers to approximately 10 over the next phase of growth
  • Partnering closely with founders and engineering leadership on product direction and execution
  • Driving delivery across AI-powered product experiences and customer-facing features
  • Improving acquisition, conversion and retention through experimentation and product optimisation
  • Building a culture of high ownership, rapid iteration and strong engineering standards
  • Supporting hiring, onboarding and career development across the team
  • Helping engineers make strong technical decisions whilst maintaining delivery velocity
  • Creating processes that enable scale without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy
  • Working alongside product, operations and engineering stakeholders to prioritise high-impact initiatives

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience managing engineering teams of 5-10+ engineers
  • Strong software engineering foundations and the ability to engage in architectural discussions
  • Experience scaling teams within startup or high-growth environments
  • A track record of owning product outcomes rather than simply delivering features
  • Experience improving customer journeys, growth funnels or engagement metrics
  • Ability to balance execution, people leadership and technical decision-making
  • Strong coaching and mentorship capabilities
  • Comfort operating in fast-paced, highly autonomous environments
  • Experience working closely with founders or senior leadership teams

The ideal background

You’ll likely be an Engineering Manager, Product Engineering Manager or Technical Lead Manager who has helped scale product teams before.
